Not because there was a new conference being made but because they were so good in their conference that they moved to a different conference. For example, Boise State trades places with Washington in the Pac-10 or trades with a team in the MWC. Has this ever happened before?

Sort of. Miami and Boston college left the big east for the ACC, and I there are some others. Cincinnati went from conference USA to the big east, but that might have been a basketball move more than football.
South Florida is in the big east, and didn’t have a football team 10 years ago.

Yeah before the ACC was 1 division then they wanted to expand so they took some of the Big East teams.
And teams get kicked out of conferences like Temple got kicked out of the Big East and then joined the MAC like 3-4 years later.

Yes, a bunch of teams from the Big East moved to the ACC a couple of years ago.

Arkansas used to play in the old SWC before it was the Big 12. Now, of course they are in the SEC.

Penn State moved from independent to Big 10 about ten years ago.
